SKYBASE 2000.0 SKYCHART UPDATE NOTICE
VERSION 4.2
February 25, 1989
In response to comments regarding the granularity of the plotted data,
the program was modified and all databases were regenerated to provide
.001 hour resolution in Right Ascension and .01 degree resolution in
Declination. The files in this update should be used to replace the
Version 4.1 files. The bulletin board version will be named SKY42A
and SKY42B.
The operation of the program was not changed, so no changes were made
to the User's Manual.
Additional features were added to provide higher quality hardcopy
output by using the printer's high resolution linefeed to fill in the
gaps between the dots in the printhead. The algorithms for the scale
were modified to accommodate SkyCharts which have small plot limits.
An additional set of 2 minute tick marks were added for the Right
Ascension scale. A minor problem with the GMST time was corrected.
As always, your comments and suggestions are appreciated.

SKYBASE 2000.0 SKYCHART UPDATE NOTICE
VERSION 4.3
April 6, 1989
Version 4.3 includes more printer support and a new feature in
the Finder Chart. It will be released to the bulletin boards
as SKY43A and SKY43B. This version supercedes all previous
versions.
NEW OPTION: PRINTER TYPE
Printers, the bane of every PC software developer; with the
total lack of official standards and a moving industry
standard, it gets real tough to keep up. The Epson standard
looked like a safe one, however, today's Epson's printers
support more graphics modes than the earlier MX-80 with
GraphTrax models. That standard is used in the early IBM
Graphic Printer models and is the emulation supported by
Okidata in their Plug & Play line. As one new user informed
me, every printer he had followed the older standard and
SkyBase 2000.0 didn't.
The control sequences and dot densities are different for the
Epson MX/FX 80 GrafTrax models and the Epson printers which
are based on the FX-86 graphics capabilities. To accommodate
these differences, a new option has been added to the
Configuration Screen: `Printer Type'. This option is used to
select the graphics printer type, either `1' or `2', as
explained below.
Printer Type `1' supports the MX-80 standard. However, in
order to maintain the proper aspect ratio, the horizontal and
vertical screen sizes should both be set to 4. This causes
the screen display to be stretched horizontally, but the
hardcopy will show the proper aspect ratio.
Printer Type selection `2' is the same as earlier versions of
SkyBase 2000.0 and should be used with printers which emulate
the later Epson FX-86 printer model. It provides a proper
aspect ratio hardcopy for a nominal 4:3 screen size. Thus,
the screen matches the hardcopy with minimal distortion. If
you have problems with this selection , then select Printer
Type `1'.
NEW FEATURE: FINDER FIELD OF VIEW
It is now possible to enter a zero (0) value for the Finder
Field of View in the Finder screen. This causes the Finder
Chart to be plotted without the crosshairs and field of view
circles.

VERSION 4.3

APPLICATION NOTE: SCREEN SIZE
The screen sizes on the Configuration Screen are used to
adjust the scale of the displayed plot in the Finder View to
compensate for different monitor sizes. The sizes can also be
used to adjust the appearance of the hardcopy output. The
nominal values for Printer Type 2 are 4 units horizontal, 3
units vertical. This produces a proper display on the monitor
as well as the printed output.
If the horizontal size is made larger, this will force the
display and printed output to be shrunk horizontally and
stretched vertically. Conversely, if the vertical size is
made larger, the display and printed copy are made smaller in
the vertical direction. By adjusting these two parameters,
the field of view circles in the Finder View can be adjusted
to be round on the printed output.
The Map View is designed to fill all of the available screen
area for all plots, except the Lambert type. Thus, the screen
size will not affect the display for all plot types except the
Lambert. The Lambert plot is adjusted for screen size.
